Sketchbook Entry: Witch Drawing

Sketchbook entry 9/22/16

This witch is part of my series of drawings for Halloween!  Its my favorite time of year even though I'm a big scaredy-cat! This conjurer is inspired by many video games and Victorian era wardrobe.  I'll be posting the finished works on my Etsy page, mostly drawings.  I'm excited about getting a new tool for the studio!  I'm finally getting a projector for transferring my sketches and small works to a larger format.  Artists would normally have to use a system of grids, lightbox, and "eyeballing it" to transfer works.  The results are often quite different or not as good as the original sketch, so the projector will be a valuable and welcome change to my work!  Not to mention the time it will save!

I'll be posting more women of horror also, so look out for them and let me know what you think!  I've been so inspired lately by pictures and clips of Maila Nurmi, an actress that created the 1950s Vampira character.  In her documentary she states that she was partly inspired by the comic strip Addams Family's Morticia.  Later these influences would come to inspire the character of Elvira.  I'd love to do a portrait of Vampira for sure!

Anyone else you can think of that you'd like to see me draw? Let me know in the comments below!

About the Artist

I would call myself a Jack of all Trades, but mostly because I'm interested in many areas of art if not all!  I graduated with a BFA in Fine Art from the University of North Texas with a focus on Watercolor.   I always had dreams of creative writing, and in 5th grade I wasn't too bad!  Art clearly won out for my attention, but writing will always have a place in my heart!

What better way to write, I say,  than to share a blog, and practice my second love while talking about my first! With that said, I hope you all enjoy my ramblings and please hit me up with any questions.  :D  Contact me!
